The Day 2926 Escaped The Gate. May 6, 2023, will go down in history as the day that Santa Fe 2926 officially "escaped the gate," a phrase coined by the New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society, after they put in more than 20 years of volunteer work to bring 292 back to life. Moved to sit on display adjacent to a local brewery at the 4th Street grade crossing, located on Rio Metro Regional Transit District's "Sawmill Spur," Santa Fe 2926 enjoyed some time out in the sun to the delight of a few thousand people who came out to witness the historic event.
