Daytime work windows for Montana Rail Link track gangs have made Mullan Pass west of Helena, Montana, a busy place late in the afternoon, as trains waiting out the curfew begin to move. As a westbound BNSF coal train climbs the 2.2 percent grade, it meets an eastbound BNSF freight at Austin on the afternoon of June 29, 2021. In the middle of the scene is four MRL SD70ACes on a mid-train manned helper set on the coal train, and down near the location of the old west switch of Austin siding is the BNSF DPU pushing on the rear.
