"The Connecticut RR at the Connecticut Co"
On the afternoon of February 26th, 2023, CTrail (CTDX) GE P40BH 6701 leads southbound CTrail train 6403 through Mill River Interlocking as it passes the former Connecticut Company James Street Trolley Barn siding on Amtrak's MRS Line in New Haven, Connecticut
The James Street Car (Trolley) Barn was constructed in 1920 and served as the main shop for the Connecticut Company's New Haven Division until buses took over in 1948. During this time, the siding pictured to right descended to street level and served as the company's connection to the New York, New Haven & Hartford mainline. A few years after the shop closed, the building was sold as a manufacturing space and the track was reconfigured to an elevated customer siding with a loading dock. New Haven Container Corporation and New Haven Paper Box Company were a two notable businesses that utilized the siding in its heyday. The building now service as a shared space but the siding has since been disconnected from the mainline and the loading dock recently converted to a canine playground.
