Remarks & Notes
Stamp Of Approval. As part of celebrating train travel, the US Postal Service issued 5 commemorative forever stamps recognizing "Five Railroad Stations that Helped Bind the Nation" on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Describing the Tamaqua Station the USPS wrote, "Pennsylvania’s Tamaqua Station, built by the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad, opened in 1874, replacing a wood-frame depot that had burned down. It was thanks to the railroad, which first arrived in Tamaqua in 1831, that the town had emerged as an anthracite coal center and regional hub. The new station’s Italianate elegance underscored this. Residents and visitors alike enjoyed the station’s restaurant, along with the manicured garden and fountain at Depot Square Park in front of the building." Today, both freight and soon more frequent passenger Reading and Northern Railroad trains still pass by this building regularly. On April 26, 2022, after the RBMN 2102 test had been completed for the day, the "Mountain Job" MCQA goes through Tamaqua with SD40-2 RBMN 3057 (ex- UP 3066, née-CNW 6901, 1/1975) leading an all EMD 4-pack. Above the scene to the left is the impressive 1961 built Trinity United Church Of Christ. Link to more info from the USPS: U.S. Postal Service Celebrates Train Travel with Stamps
