A Chessie System eastbound freight led by B&O 4140, an early GP40-2, built in October 1972, pauses at New Castle, PA behind a Safety Special led by C&O steam locomotive 614 (not shown). I visited EMD in La Grange, IL in September 1972 during their 50th Anniversary open house, and these Chessie GP40-2s were under construction there at the time. Chessie was the brightest color scheme in the Northeast at the time.
