Remarks & Notes
A massive snowstorm in the mountains of southern California is preventing a view into the valleys of Cajon Pass, where it is snowing. But here, at the summit of the BNSF Railway’s crossing of this pass, the elevation (3,775-feet) has enabled the crew on train Q-LACPPK6-27L (Guaranteed Service Intermodal heading to Logistics Park in Kansas City KS), engineer Marquez and conductor Amador, to have to use their sun visors for the first time since departing Los Angeles. BNSF ES44ACs 6064 and 5974, and ES44DC 7509 and Dash 9-44CW 5258 are generating 17,600 horsepower to get this 84 car, 5,945 ton train over this mountain – the first of many that the train will encounter across California, Arizona and New Mexico before hitting the flatter topography of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
