Remarks & Notes
Open Cut. A Metropolitan Line train to Chesham is seen arriving at Barbican station, operating S8 Stock manufactured by Bombardier (2008-2017). This historic station was built in 1865 to serve Metropolitan Railway trains, and is open-air so steam locomotives could safely vent smoke without filling the tunnels. Additionally, the abandoned tracks and platforms of the Widened Lines can be seen at far right. Until 2009, these platforms served ThamesLink trains bound for Moorgate. All trains were diverted through the Snow Hill Tunnel instead, allowing them to continue through London to the south rather than terminate in Zone 1.
