Keeping with the Penn Central tradition of leasing Bangor & Aroostook power after potato season was done, Conrail utilized a BAR GP9 on May 27, 1978 in Haworth NJ to pull a ballast train both north and then south a couple hours later. Not sure where this train dumped the ballast, but it couldn't have been too much farther up the line. Note the old platform for the Haworth New York Central (West Shore Line) station, 21 years after the last commuter train stopped here. Funny, scanning old slides, how often you notice the engineer waving or sticking their head out the window even though you never noticed it at the time.
