On the morning of January 20th, 2023, Long Island Rail Road crews shuttled six decommissioned M7 railcars from Arch Street Shops in Long Island City to New York New Jersey Rail's 65th Street Yard in Brooklyn. The train, powered by two MP15ACs, traveled east up the Lower Montauk line to Fresh Pond Yard then west down the Bay Ridge Branch via the East New York Tunnel. At 65th Street Yard Frontier Industries will load the six cars onto flatcars and ship them to their facility in Ohio for scrapping. These six M7 railcars (7044/7553, 7054/7425 & 7034/7033) were all damaged in separate accidents over the years and are deemed unrepairable.
LIRR MP15AC 171 trails on the west end of the train as it travels under the "new" Kosciuszko Bridge in Maspeth Queens.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
