Due to the derailment of CSX L640-09 on the Charleston Subdivision, all A-Line passenger trains were rerouted via the S-Line. Seen here is the Northbound AutoTrain (Amtrak 53) crossing the interlocking at Boylan, continuing eastward on Norfolk Southern's NC-Line, before returning to the A-Line via the Selma Connection. This west facing vantage point from Boylan Bridge is excellent for trains entering downtown Raleigh, especially long consist such as the AutoTrain.
Amtrak's longest train takes passengers and their vehicles on an overnight trip between Florida and the Northeast while eliminating 850 miles of driving. It is popular with snowbirds and families.
Three north-south routes run through North Carolina. Auto Train comes by, too. Also, the State of North Carolina sponsors the Piedmont service and supports the Carolinian.
