| NS 6939 is leading an eastbound mixed freight and has just eased to a stop on the trestle over the Tug Fork River at Welch West Virginia. The old Norfolk & Western Color Position Light Signals are still in control here but not for much longer as the new PTC signals are in place. The fourth unit on this train is still in Hemphill Tunnel #1 and the rest of the train trails back through the tunnel exiting over another trestle, again over the Tug Fork River, and then into Hemphill Tunnel #2. 6939 was originally NS SD60 6563 built in June 1985. It was rebuilt as SD60E 6939 in October of 2012 and placed in service January 2013. |
