Eastbound out of Hill City. Engineer Kirston Hilpert settles into the right seat of the beefy Black Hills Central Locomotive #108, as she takes the 11:30 AM edition of the "1880 Train" east out of the yard in Hill City, SD, bound for Keystone, about 10 miles and one hour away. The train is pictured here on the little wooden trestle at the north end of the yard, at Mile Marker .01. This view shows the most obvious difference between this engine and sister engine #110, that being the full saddle tank on this one. The crews tell me that the water capacity of both engines is just about identical. The split tanks on the 110 are wider at the bottom than the full saddle, which makes up for the volume lost by removing the center section of the saddle.
