Remarks & Notes
In late 2013, the reacquisition of Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4014 by the Railroad from the RailGiants Museum in Pomona, California. Of the eight "Big Boys" preserved around the country (seven on static public display), 4014 was in the best condition for restoration to operating condition. These locomotives, with a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, were the largest steam locomotives ever built. Twenty-five were built by the American Locomotive Company from 1941 to 1944, and all were owned by the UP. The beg steam locomotive is seen being slowly backed down temporary track out of the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds (Fairplex), the first leg of its journey to Cheyenne, Wyoming, for restoration to operating condition.
