Burlington Northern’s local to Kalispell is about to cross the Pioneer Road grade crossing as it departs La Salle, Montana, on a snowy November 1, 1991. This branch runs from Columbia Falls to Kalispell and was operated by short line conglomerate Watco Companies for quite a few years before BNSF once again took over operation of the branch in 2020.
