Remarks & Notes
The Alaska Railroad was where the interest in trains started for me. A return trip in 2014, my first time back to Alaska in 27 years, found some of the old engines were still around. 3005 used to wear black and yellow paint. These were the first GP40-2s the railroad bought in the early 70s. After that ARR had another order of GP40-2s in 'bold' blue and yellow (numbers 3012-3015), they later bought some ex NYC GP40 stragglers that never received the 'Alaska' package of the large plow and winterization hatch. Those were mostly used in the summer for additional power.
