Diesel Foliage Ramble. After an unexpected mechanical problem developed with Reading & Northern's beloved T-1 steam engine 2102 shortly after departure from Reading Outer Station in Reading, Pennsylvania, passengers were quickly back on the move from Port Clinton, Pennsylvania when RBMN SD50-2s 5018 (ex-CSX 8507, née-SBD 8507 SD50, 1/1983) and 5019 (ex-CSX 8550, née-SBD 8550, SD50, 3/1984) were substituted to lead the Iron Horse Rambles excursion. Fall foliage has come to the region as the train crosses the Hometown Trestle near Tamaqua Pennsylvania surrounded by brilliant colors on the morning of Saturday, October 8, 2022. While there was some disappointment amongst the passengers, the railroad refunded the increased cost of the ticket normally associated with its steam trips and the unusual appearance of the matching "Fast Freight Service" units made for a striking scene for photographers.
