Remarks & Notes
An ex-Western Maryland GP40 lives out a second life as a slug unit, with a current assignment to the two locals out of Apex, NC. CSXT 2361 was built as WM 3799 in August, 1971. In the background is the freight station, now CSX's yard office, and "downtown" Apex. Apex's name originates from the town's claim to fame as the highest point on this segment of what eventually became Seaboard Air Lines' mainline. It served as an important location for decades as the junction between the SAL and Durham & Southern. A small town for most of its existence, Apex is now one of the fastest growing (and increasingly, affluent) municipalities in the US.
