Remarks & Notes
The Re 460 # 061 pulls the IR 2169 of the line IR 61 from Bern via Olten-Aarau-Brugg-Baden to Zurich with up to 160 km/h between Aarau and Rupperswil. Of the SBB's double-decker Intercity coaches of type "IC2000", half have currently undergone the major renewal program and are now called "IC2020", this is illustrated by this train. Of the 119 Re 460 locomotives, all have now undergone the major refit program after up to 30 years of service. Since 1992, the Re 460 fleet has been the powerhouse of most intercity trains and completes about half of all passenger kilometers performed by SBB. Each of the locomotives has covered an average of 5.5 million kilometers. SBB's comprehensive modernization program, which last over five years, will extend the life of the fleet by another 20 years. Thanks to new traction inverters and other technical optimizations, the entire fleet saves around 30 gigawatt hours of energy each year, which is five gigawatt hours more than originally expected. The energy savings are equivalent to the average electricity consumption of 10,000 Swiss households. Energy-efficient water-cooled IGBT (insulated-gate bipolar transistor) traction converters are replacing power electronics based on the GTO (thyristor) semiconductor technology of the 1990s. Upgrading to state-of-the-art IGBT technology and inverter cooling systems that use water instead of oil enables a reduction in energy consumption and ensures greener and safer rail operations.
