I traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas, to photograph some Kansas City Southern freight trains. I headed south to catch a southbound (possibly heading from Kansas City MO to Shreveport LA) that departed town while I was shooting a northbound. As the train appeared from behind the trees, I was disappointed to see that it was led by a BNSF Railway locomotive. But then I noticed the logos, and realized that it was one of BNSF’s ten 25th Anniversary diesels, so … OK, I’m not as disappointed now. If I was going to have a BNSF unit on the point, at least it was an interesting one! The two trailing engines are former Transportación Ferroviaria Mexicana SD70MACs: KCS 3912 (ex-TFM 1612) and 3952 (ex-TFM 1652). OK, I’ll admit it … I would have rather had those on the headend.
