An eastbound Metro SubwayLink train approaches West Cold Spring Station. The existing single heavy rail transit line was one of six lines planned for Baltimore, with a central loop in the city's downtown.
Unlike many other rapid transit systems in the United States, the motorman for SubwayLink trains sits on the left side of the cab, rather than the right. This may be due to the fact that all stations on the line are island platforms, and this puts the operator on the platform side of the train.
These Universal Transit Vehicles, as they were named by manufacturer Budd, were also used by the Miami-Dade Metrorail - not quite universally though.
