Chicago Burlington & Quincy SD9 346 was built by EMD in May 1955. By 1985, the 30-year-old locomotive had lost its signal lights and gained a Cascade Green and black paint job for subsequent owner Burlington Northern, a railroad created when the CB&Q merged with Great Northern, Northern Pacific and Spokane Portland & Seattle in 1970, fifteen years prior. BN SD9 6148 is seen on its former owner’s trackage in McCook, Nebraska, on August 5, 1985.
