All steamed up and nowhere to go ... yet. Former Rio Grande K-37 2-8-2 491 is all steamed up on Friday for a recording session that will occur on Monday. This locomotive was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works as Denver & Rio Grande Western 1126, a standard-gauge Class 190 2-8-0. In 1924 many of these were reclassed (to C-41) and renumbered DRGW 1026. In 1928, the railroad rebuild the standard-gauge C-41 Consolidations into a narrow-gauge Mikado, with an outside frame (as on the Rio Grande's other narrow-gauge K-class 2-8-2s). Now a part of the Colorado Railroad Museum's collection, these K-37s were the largest narrow-gauge locomotives in the Rio Grande's roster. (Golden, Colorado – April 1, 2022)
