What Month Is This? What Year? A 2 day record-breaking atypical winter-like Nor’easter storm had left 14.2 inches of snow on the ground in Binghamton, New York by the morning of Tuesday, April 19, 2022, the previous record for April snowfall having been set in 2007. Notably, that was before September 19, 2015 when Norfolk Southern (NS) assumed ownership of the former Delaware & Hudson Railway (D&H) from Sunbury, PA, to Schenectady, NY from Canadian Pacific (CP). The purchase including the East Binghamton Yard, where on April 19, 2022, Train 68N (originating in Chicago, IL [CN], Frac sand loads) was awaiting departure with a robust power set of CP 8911(ES44AC), CP 8120 (AC4400CWM), BNSF 5528 (C44-9W), and BNSF 4384 (C44-9W). If not for the sign clearly denoting the modern era of ownership, one could almost imagine the throwback to some winter month during the period of Canadian Pacific control of the D&H from 1991-2015 in between that of the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway and Norfolk Southern.
