The Wengernalpbahn is regularly using a very old cogwheel electrolocomotive for shunting duties in Lauterbrunnen, the He 2/2 # 52 built by SLM and Alioth in 1909! When freight trains arrive down from Wengen with the modern He 2/2 # 31 or # 32 (or railcars BDhe 4/4), the cars are shunted with the oldtimer to the unloading track, and all vice versa. The Wengernalpbahn belongs to the cogwheel railroads with exclusive drive via these. Thus, even in the level station Lauterbrunnen rack tracks are laid everywhere, the drive of the vehicles is only through the cogwheels.
