Hackensack River Crossings.
A Newark-bound PATH train is seen crossing the PATH Lift Bridge across the Hackensack River on Saturday April 2, 2022. Weekend work on the Newark branch of the transit system meant one of the tracks was out of service between Journal Square and Harrison, so outbound trains were on the near side of the bridge rather than the far side. The towers of the Harsimus Branch Lift and the Wittpenn Bridge Replacement can be seen in the background, the former of which carries CSX and NS trains. The latter bridge carries NJ Route 7 and is a brand new replacement of the original Wittpenn Bridge, which was a massive structure similar to the other two here.
Two rapid transit lines, PATCO and PATH, take commuters to Philadelphia and New York, respectively. Metro North locomotives and rolling stock often show up on NJ Transit northern lines and SEPTA terminates routes in Trenton and West Trenton.
