Remarks & Notes
Wide cab SD60M No. 9280 comes rolling down the main through Ashland, NE as a standard cab SD60 sits on the siding with a work train. The Oakway (EMD leasing) SD60s were slowly being relegated to more mundane service as AC power in the form of the 70MACs became prevalent. A loaded coal train waits on the north main track for the 9280 West to clear the single track segment following the Platte River east of Ashland. In these days of intense coal train activity it was frequently the pattern for three westbounds to come off the single track, after which a like number of loads moved east, as accommodated by the number of passing sidings along the river.
