Ten miles out of North Platte, a solid set of Chicago & North Western power – C&NW GP50 5091 and SD40-2s 6915 and 6932 – hustle a Union Pacific freight eastbound through the crossovers at Keith. No snow is expected this day – it is August, after all – but the snow fencing in the background are a clear indication that winter snows can blow into sizable drifts here on the high plains.
