On the morning of March 2nd, 2022, a ConnDOT Shore Line East Test Train consisting of Kawasaki M8 railcars sits at the Track 2 high-level platform at New London Union Station on Amtrak's "New Haven to Boston" section of the Northeast Corridor. The main purpose of this night's train was to test third rail shoe and platform gap clearances at New London's uniquely curved station. Here we see the train purposely spotted at the portion of the platform with the widest gap for measurements. Under normal circumstances, the doors would not be spotted here. This test marks another step towards M8s running in revenue service on Shore Line East trains.
