Union Pacific train LOA32, the Marlboro Local, rounds the S-curve in an industrial park in Marlboro, an industrial section of the city of Orange. The train has just completed setting out two tank cars and picking up one other at FXI Plastic Fabricators and is heading back through the maze of trackage here to return to Anaheim. UP GP60 1083 (ex-UP 1953, née-SSW 9651) will be leading on the way west, MUed with GP40P-2 1073 (ex-SP 7602, née-SP 3199), to take cars ABOX 51989 and GATX 217986 to Anaheim to be sent on a Hauler back to West Colton and, eventually, their next assignments. Both engines were built for other services originally: The GP40P-2 for passenger service on Southern Pacific's commutes in the Bay Area, and the GP60 for hotshot SP intermodal trains. It is kind of sad to see them in lowly local service these days, but it still beats meeting the scrapper's torch. At about 12:30 am the next morning, FXI Plastic Fabricators would be involved in a four-alarm fire! (Orange, California – February 8, 2022)
