I'm unsure as to whether this is Amtrak or a UP special train with the undiluted set of E9s and UP consist at this date - probably the latter. The train is eastbound at the Cheyenne depot. The track on the far right is the business car spur, where president John Kenefick's car would be parked while he was in town overnight. He would often spend a few hours in the dispatchers' office (located about where the dome car is situated in this view), where there was a rocking chair kept especially for him. He'd sit in the chair in the evening and watch the train dispatchers, handling of traffic and visit with everyone. When he left town you'd see him standing on the vestibule of his business car, smoking a big cigar and surveying his railroad. That was the old school, and it was a good school. Nice MRS plug door boxcar in the adjacent consist.
See beautiful diesel locomotives in UP's traditional armour yellow livery and special commemorative paint schemes pulling long trains of yellows cars reminiscent of the days when UP domeliners seemed to go Everywhere West.
