After about 2 years standstill due to the Covid-19 crisis, the unique steam railcar CZm 1/2 # 31 of SBB Historic, maintained and operated by steam group Zürich (VDZ Verein Dampfgruppe Zürich), made a transfer run with passengers from Zürich via Oerlikon-Regensdorf-Wettingen-Mellingen-Othmarsingen to Brugg AG, for a charter run the other day. In Mellingen, the steam railcar took water and is now leaving towards Othmarsingen, over the east-west mainline of Switzerland. This vehicle with 30 seats, a mail compartment and 45 km/h maximum velocity, was built in 1902 by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen/Germany for the Nordostbahn. In 1906 already, the CZm was sold to the Uerikon-Bauma-Bahn and got a new boiler. Withdrawn in 1948 and stabled by the SBB, operational again since 1980 as historic vehicle, since 2005 operated by VDZ. By the way, the man looking out of the passenger compartment is swiss RP-photographer R.B.!
