Remarks & Notes
On an unusually cold and snowy October 10, 1997, Amtrak’s eastbound Empire Builder makes the climb over Marias Pass just west of Summit, Montana. This was during a short timeframe when Amtrak’s stalwart EMD F40PH fleet was sharing the duties with their replacements—new GE P40DC locomotives—and on this day, No. 812 is m.u.’ed with No. 378.
