| The summer of 2018 was a difficult one for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. First a fire in June near Durango shuttered the railroad, and then a mudslide in July stranded two trains at Rockwood. When I visited in August the railroad was running trips out of Rockwood to Silverton using the stranded equipment (passengers rode a bus from Durango to Rockwood). The arrangement made for some interesting images, such as this one of 476 switching cars at Rockwood after returning from Silverton. It was quite an ordeal to turn an entire train on the short wye at Rockwood. |
