Remarks & Notes |
It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Southern Indiana as Indiana Rail Roads train SAHW (Senate Ave Yard - Hiawatha Yard) makes it’s way towards Hiawatha Yard in Jasonville with the usual duo of Indiana Rail Road SD9043MACs and a duo of GP38-2’s also. The train is seen here beginning its trek over the 116 year old Tulip Viaduct. The trestle was built in 1905 by the Indianapolis Southern Railway, which became part of the Illinois Central Railroad in 1911. It is 2,295 feet in length and is the biggest railroad bridge in all of Indiana. The Tulip Trestle is the biggest trestle along the old Illinois Central “Hi-Dry Line” as well. The Indianapolis District of the former Illinois Central was known as the “Hi-Dry Line” for many high fills and bridges/trestles, which makes the line very photogenic. |
