Royal Gorge Route Railroad recently purchased the trio of former B&O EMD SD40-3 locomotives that were owned by Escalante Western Railway and used on coal trains operating from Lee Ranch Mine to Plains Escalante Generating Station near Grants, New Mexico. The first unit repainted into a new black and orange scheme is CRRX No. 601, as seen on lead of the railroad’s passenger train at Cañon City, Colorado, on August 26, 2021.
