BNSF Railway train Z-LACNYC7-05 has just begun its trip from Los Angeles to New York behind ES44C4 7042 and Dash 944CWs 677 and 5355, with an assist from mid-train Distributed Power Units ES44DC 7249 and ES44C4 8096. Of particular interest (to me, at least) is that Dash 9 in the old Santa Fe “Superfleet” colors, albeit very faded. ATSF 677 was built by General Electric in August 1994, 27 years earlier. It is one of a very small number of BNSF’s 7,705 (as of July 1, 2020) locomotives that are not painted in one of the BNSF’s multiple orange paint schemes, and with a lot of older engines, such as this one, being retired of late, that number is getting smaller each year.
