Eastbound in the Flathead River valley approaching Nyak, MT, the 4309 has a UP SD70 coupled behind and two more Dash9s on the rear end for its climb over Marias Pass. What the Dash9 was to BNSF, the SD70M was to UP - a major element of the motive power roster before ACs became commonplace. The marker pointing to adjacent mountain peaks is reminiscent of Great Northern passenger travel.
