Southern went in big for the GP35, eventually owning 76. Five, including 244, were purchased for Central of Georgia, and stood out by having three-digit numbers and Blomberg trucks. The other 71 - numbered 2645-2715 - came with AAR Type B trucks, except two units (numbered in low 2700s, maybe 2703 and 2704?) with Blombergs. In the photo, 244 is teamed with two GP30s, and a U23B, all still gloriously wearing Southern colors even though NS was a thing by this date.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
Selected photos of locomotives, passenger cars, and rolling stock in the Southern's livery as well as other assets once belonging to or used by the Southern.
