Remarks & Notes 
In the 1970s, the southbound Crescent did not get to Hattiesburg until very late in the afternoon, which could be a problem on short winter days. That's why the approach to the Leaf River Bridge was a lucky discovery for this out-of-towner - no trees, and even a little bit of elevation of the roadbed.

The Southern Railway was one of three US railroads that decided not to join Amtrak in 1971. Its flagship train, the Southern Crescent, Washington - New Orleans, set the standard for passenger rail service in the US for most of the 1970s.
