After Norfolk & Western 611’s successful visit to Strasburg in 2019, it seemed logical that a return was likely. Getting it back to Pennsylvania became a stormy journey. The pandemic eliminated the possibility of a 2020 visit, but finally, a return for the entire summer was planned for 2021. Steamed up and ready to leave the North Carolina Transportation Museum, the big 4-8-4 suffered a stoker screw failure, and the return was delayed for repairs. After a three hour wait to get on Amtrak’s Keystone Line in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she finally was delivered to the Leamon Place interchange with the Strasburg Rail Road late this afternoon. As it was taken to Strasburg, storms rolled in, providing appropriate lighting for its return.
