On the autumn day of October 25, 1992, a Burlington Northern taconite ore train headed for Granite City, near East St. Louis, follows the bank of the Mississippi River at Savanna, Illinois. The middle locomotive in the consist is one of three prototype EMD SD60 locomotives, originally painted in BN colors, but became part of EMD’s lease fleet by this date.
