Remarks & Notes |
Crowds jostle for their picture. There must be something special going on?
Late on the evening of Saturday 15th May 43102 in it's commemorative coat of Intercity 'Swallow' livery has recently arrived at Leeds with the 20:02 service from London St Pancras- the final HST from London.
After 39 years it is all over for the Midland Mainline HST's, and with the exception of the Night Riviera in Cornwall and charter trains this is also the end of slam doors and opening windows on the UK rail network.
43102 is due to be retired to the National Railway Museum, its place in history assured by being one of the two power cars involved in the record breaking run on 1st November 1987 where the train achieved 148.5 mph - to this day it is still the fastest diesel train in the world.
You can find more photos of the run down of the Midland HST's on my blog here. |
