Crews from Hulcher and R.J. Corman move a track panel with a side boom caterpillar while cleaning up a derailment at Lakeside, Nebraska, on BNSF’s Sand Hills Subdivision. The derailment happened on May 17, 2006, when an eastbound BNSF coal train led by No. 8814 ran an intermediate signal with a red aspect and plowed into the rear of another coal load, with obvious results. The trailing locomotive of the train, along with a rear DPU on the train hit, were also damaged, along with seven hoppers that also derailed and were destroyed.
