The south end of the Saginaw Sub from Flint to Wixom for LSRC is a section that I haven't shot previous to yesterday. With guidance from a friend, I would call my first chase successful.
While I was awake at 02:30 and on the road by 03:00, the 127 job goes on duty in Wixom at 04:00. It's about about a 2 hour drive from my house to Munger Rd north of Wixom, so to ensure I had plenty of time to catch the train, I had the early start. I got to Munger Rd at about 05:00ish. I set my flashes up and waited. For the next hour a light breeze, birds chirping, and ducks making noise on the pond filled the air. At about 6:00 I heard a horn in the distance. I walked to my furthest flash, and waited for the train to get closer before turning all 4 on. To ensure my settings were right, I took a quick 2 photos while the train was still a good distance away. To my surprise, one of my flashes were dying and needed new batteries. For that reason, it began to rapidly flash over and over. I took the trigger off, and put it back on and snapped a photo as the train split the signals. Luckily, the flash unit quit rapidly flashing, and had enough time to regain full flash strength in time to shoot the train. A very quick pack-up of flashes and it was on the road to begin the chase to Flint. The Z127 going northbound had 40 some autoracks ahead of the manifest.
After that day, I will most definitely be making another trip back over to chase again soon.
