Yellow and green in the land of warbonnets On June 23, 1996, an eastbound Chicago & North Western (well, Union Pacific by this date, but still doesn’t look like it) intermodal train sprints over Santa Fe’s Media Trestle just east of Media, Illinois. A trio of C&NW GE Dash 9s and an EMD SD50 power the rare detour, most likely due to a derailment somewhere on C&NW’s main line between Nevada, Iowa, and Chicago. I assume this train ran down to Spine Line to Kansas City and then east on the Santa Fe. No, I had no idea it was coming, although I did recognize C&NW Dash 9’s unique and pleasant horn blaring through Media to the west as “something different.” This bridge was replaced by BNSF in 2018.
