Remarks & Notes
Photog CHIONE....from my collection...Some of my favorite things about Milwaukee's U-Boats.....as long as the engines were running they had a central heating system that was kick ass....and the cabs if they were tight would keep you warm and cozy in the winter.....I personally liked the 16 notch throttle with the foot long handle...they were cool.....visibility from the cab was almost 360 with all the windows and you sat higher then the control stand which was great......NOW the down side.......most of the U25B's and U28B's were not good runners engine wise and when they died it took both the Engineer and the Brakeman to get them started.....the starter was on the left side up by the governor where the low oil and crank case pressure switch was.......if the batteries were low you weren't going to get them started.....many a cold winters day and night were spent on these.......like I said they were great when they ran but......I remember the GE guy coming into the Milwaukee Diesel House one time checking out the warranty work and he found more then one GE that the oil had not been changed in 11 months....GE immediately revoked the warranties on all the U-Boats.
