Remarks & Notes
Delaware & Hudson train OILC (Oak Island, NJ – Lacolle, QC) passes through Lehigh Gap, Pennsylvania. The lone C420 has an easy time with the short intermodal consist. Three railroads once passed through the gap in the Blue Mountain. Across the river is the soon to be ripped up main line of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, while the train is on the main line of the Jersey Central, which also carried most Lehigh Valley trains from 1967 until Conrail was formed. Until it was demolished in 1967, a the massive Lehigh & New England deck truss bridge crossed this entire scene. The east abutment can be seen on the left, uphill from the rear of the train. The remains of two piers across the river mark the bridge’s location on the other side of the Lehigh River.
