Remarks & Notes
The bridge of which this particular shot was taken on hosted many prominent railroad photographers in the Seaboard Coast Line. Various films featured on productions like Green Frog Rail Videos featured this very spot, as it was once a hot spot for traffic - and for good reason. This was where the SCL diverged into two mainlines, the S-Line and A-Line to Raleigh, NC and Rocky Mount, NC respectively. The connection - still visible going off to the left carried the SCL to the old SAL main, which north of here had been abandoned in favor of the ACL mainline. The S-Line south was abandoned in the 80's, much for the same reason as the Richmond line was. Now - Amtrak and the governments of Virginia and North Carolina seek to restore the line for high-speed rail. Alas, little traction has been gained. A southbound coal train destined for a Florida powerplant makes good headway with three thundering GE's on the head, as it overtakes a manifest train led by the infamous CSXT 1776 Military Tribute locomotive.
