Ready for work. WW&F Locomotive #9 is steamed and ready to tie on to her mixed extra in the Sheepscot Yard, as she sits just south of the 3-way stub switch, adjacent to the water tank. That's Fireman J.B. Smith in the gangway, awaiting signals from the yard crew that the north yard is clear for their next move.
Locomotive #9 is an 1891 product of the Portland Company and served 4 of Maine's 24" gauge railroads over the course of a 42 year career that ended in 1933. After literally spending 50 years in a barn on a farm in Connecticut, she returned to Maine and has been restored to run on the rails of the very last employer she served, the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway, which today is a museum in Alna, Maine.
