The Phase IV era of Amtrak isn't one I documented terribly well, and isn't the most common to see in general. It was a rather difficult find to get a solid Phase IV consist, and it was the tail end of the film era. Film cost money, and so did developing it, so I usually saved my shots for Phase III subjects like the F40s and FL9s still hanging around the area during this era. I was a bit of a hold out and didn't get a DSLR until 2010. On this summer day, the conductor of the Lake Shore Limited asked if I'd like to bring coffee up to the engineer of the at Utica, which provided a nice opportunity to nab a photo before getting back on.
